Ok, I’ll admit it – I’m
๐ a kisser,
๐ค a hugger,
๐ค and a shaker …..
What are you – any funny stories, advice, do’s and dont’s you want to share from your own culture??
I went in for a double cheek kiss with a colleague once – but I went for the wrong cheek for the first kiss and AWKWARD !!
Every few weeks I have a refreshing DE&I conversation with our amazing Katie Gleghorn, and this time around, we talked about some really simple but quite profound challenges around different ๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ผ๐บ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐๐น๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ that my team face every day. You see, my team are globally dispersed and our daily interactions both physically and virtually, are often with people from very different cultures to our own.
* My go-to baseline greeting is a ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ-> friends, colleagues, customers or strangers.
* If we know each other reasonably well (friend, colleague, maybe customer) and you’re she/her/hers – I’ll probably lean in for a ๐ฑ๐ผ๐๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ธ ๐ธ๐ถ๐๐ !! It might be awkward – I’ll judge that half way in, and laugh it off if it goes wrong!
* Friend, family or colleague and identifying as he/him -> we probably do the ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ผ-๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ-๐ต๐๐ด thing if its been a while, otherwise it’s probably the hand-shake
What about you?
Erin Meyer has some great material worth looking at if you find yourself interacting with different cultures and needing to take your foot form your mouth!!
